HOURLY INTERMITTENT LIBRARIANS
Sideletter
The University and the AFT enter into the following sideletter regarding the utilization of Hourly Intermittent Librarians. The following terms and conditions of employment shall govern the use of such appointees at all locations except UC Santa Cruz and Riverside where the parties agree the University may continue its current practices regarding the use of substitute librarians. However, at the request of the union, the parties will meet to review the use of hourly librarians at the Santa Cruz and/or Riverside campus.
The use of Hourly Intermittent Librarians is not intended to replace career or temporary librarians, but to provide intermittent relief, as needed. Following ratification of a successor agreement, the University shall establish a new classification entitled Hourly Intermittent Librarian (title code: 3630). Such appointees shall be subject to the following terms and conditions of employment:
Hourly Intermittent Librarians:
are appointed to Title Code 3630 in order to work for short periods of time, sometimes intermittently;
shall be paid on an hourly basis equal to the hourly equivalent of the appropriate step of the Assistant Librarian Salary Scale;
shall be assigned to work in reference;
are appointed on an at will basis;
may not, individually or on aggregate basis at any one campus, work more than 80 hours in a month, no individual may work more than 45 hours in a month;
shall receive a performance assessment from her/his immediate supervisor, in accordance with local procedures, upon reaching 500 hours of University service in the hourly intermittent classification;
Hourly Intermittent Librarian appointees shall be separated prior to laying off temporary and/or career librarians and
shall be subject to the provisions of the Memorandum of Understanding covering represented librarians except for the following Articles:
3: Professional Activities & Development;
4: Promotion and Advancement;
6: Transfer and Reassignments;
7: Layoff;
10: Release Time
12: Salary (excluding general range adjustments)
13: University Benefits
14: Fee Waiver
19: Sick Leave
20: Vacation
21: Holidays
23: Corrective Action and Dismissal
Appendix E
This Agreement shall remain in full force and effect through August 30, 2006. If the University and the UC-AFT do not agree to an extension of this program, the terms governing the use of the Hourly Intermittent Librarians shall revert to the status quo as of the date of this Agreement.
